Welcome to Lakewood Ranch

Welcome to Lakewood Ranch, a vibrant and meticulously planned community nestled in southeastern Manatee County and northeastern Sarasota County. Spanning approximately 31,000 acres, Lakewood Ranch offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, modern conveniences, and a thriving community spirit. It is an integral part of the North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Lakewood Ranch began its journey in the 1980s when the renowned developer SMR envisioned a groundbreaking destination resort project called Cypress Banks. The grand plan included 1,800 acres of carefully designed space with 5,000 mixed residential units, three golf courses, and a magnificent 300-room hotel. Although the project faced initial denial by Manatee County in 1987, it was eventually approved in December 1989. However, the resort project never came to fruition, and SMR retained vested rights to the land.

Since then, Lakewood Ranch has evolved into a thriving community with a diverse range of neighborhoods and amenities. The first neighborhood, Summerfield, was completed in 1995, setting the stage for the exceptional growth and development that followed.
